Your business only performs as well as you do. If you’re running on fumes, ignoring your body, or pushing past your limits, it’s only a matter of time before things start to stall.
As someone trained in yoga and Reiki, I’ve learned that coming back to the body is one of the most powerful tools we have. But I’ll be honest — it’s still something I practice every single day. Some mornings I feel grounded, some mornings I don’t. What I know for sure is that the more I come back to myself, the more my business benefits.
Here are 7 practices that keep me aligned - small, intentional things that ripple into everything I do - that hopefully can help you too.
1. Mid-day breathing breaks (under the desk...truly)
Stress doesn’t ask for permission — it builds quietly throughout the day. That’s why I take time to pause when I need to.
This one always makes people laugh, but it’s true - sometimes I literally lay under my desk between meetings and do breathwork. I’ll close my eyes, put a hand on my belly, and practice Wim Hof breathing.
Even one round can change how I feel. My heart rate slows, my shoulders drop, and I can step into my next meeting feeling present instead of scattered. Breathwork is my reset button - it's something that I've learned to embrace over time and it has truly changed everything for me.
2. A little intention-setting + yoga flow each morning
Movement truly cures the soul. Every morning, I do a quick yoga flow, even if it’s just 3 minutes. I stretch my body awake and set an intention for the day.
I stand still, close my eyes, feel my feet grounded, and listen for whatever intention comes. Sometimes it’s ease. Sometimes it’s focus. Sometimes it’s just breathe. Aligning my mind to something bigger than myself shifts my energy before the day even begins. And, this helps me listen to my intuition, which has been an essential part of growing my business.
3. No messages or email before my computer
I don’t check Slack, any messages, or email until I'm out of bed, breakfast is done, and I'm ready for work. Ever. That small boundary has been game-changing. My mornings are sacred space and I make sure that I keep that boundary.
By the time I sit down at my desk and open my inbox, I’m already grounded. My business gets the clear-headed version of me, not a frazzled or unorganized one that used to show up.
4. Forest walks for perspective
Nature is my greatest teacher. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or stuck, I head into the forest near my home. The stillness, the smell of cedar, the crunch of the trail beneath my shoes - it pulls me out of my head and back into my body.
Even a 20-minute walk changes how I feel. I always return to my work lighter, with fresh ideas that would never have surfaced if I’d stayed at my desk forcing it.
5. Listening to my body’s cues
If I feel pulled toward writing, I write. If I’m craving movement, I step away and stretch. If a certain task feels heavy, I pause to ask: Do I need to push through, or do I need to come back to this later?
This doesn’t mean avoiding responsibility; it means honoring my energy so I can work with myself, not against myself. I’ve found my productivity is always higher when I listen instead of force.
6. Mid-day dance parties
Sometimes the best reset is the simplest one! I turn on music and dance around my office. I don't overthink it - I just move however my body wants (and pretend I'm dancing to Anjunadeep in a dreamy beach location!).
It’s a reminder that movement doesn’t always have to be structured or serious. Dancing gets me out of my head, lifts my mood instantly, and helps me shake off whatever stress I’ve been carrying. I always return to my desk with more energy and joy.
7. Evening bike rides to unwind
I love ending my day with movement, but not in a way that feels like another task. Hopping on my bike for an evening ride lets me process the day, get fresh air, and physically leave work behind.
There’s something about pedaling into the sunset or feeling the cool night air that clears my mind. By the time I’m home, I feel lighter, ready to transition out of “work mode” and into rest.
Your business can only thrive if you do. The more we listen, move, rest, and come back to ourselves, the more we can build businesses that actually feel good to run.
I don’t always get it right, and you don’t have to either. What matters is coming back again and again: to your breath, to your body, to whatever practice helps you realign. Because when you’re in alignment, everything in your business flows differently.
